Review: Be Here Now, by Ram Dass

Overall I liked the book, though sometimes I’m afraid to admit it. The way it is written one can easily come to the conclusion Ram Dass has used too many hallucinogens and has lost touch with reality. When I recommend the book I do so with the caveat that he may be so enlightened he’s forgotten how to convey the message in a way people can accept. But then again, it was the 70′s. Perhaps I should read some of his more recent work. Maybe I’ll add it to the list.
Despite the bizarre lay out, drawings, and paper, it carries an excellent message. The message is one of love and presence. I often quote a couple of my favorite parts:
When he is talking about all of his ego based accomplishments, a person a little further on the path to enlightenment simply repeats, “Be here now”.
The other quote I love is, “The thinking mind is a perfect servant and a lousy master.”
I recommend the book. Just don’t judge me, lol.
